Foreign guest arrivals up by 15% in May

The data for May 2015 show an 11% increase in the total of guest arrivals to Slovenia and a 9% increase in overnight accommodation in comparison to May 2014. Foreign tourists generated 15% more overnight stays than last year, with German tourists generating as much as one-third more. Most overnight stays were recorded in municipalities with spa facilities.

Foreign guest arrivals up by 15% in May

The data for May 2015 show an 11% increase in the total of guest arrivals to Slovenia and a 9% increase in overnight accommodation in comparison to May 2014. Foreign tourists generated 15% more overnight stays than last year, with German tourists generating as much as one-third more. Most overnight stays were recorded in municipalities with spa facilities.

Higher number of tourist arrivals

Some 11% more arrivals and 9% more overnight stays were recorded in accommodation facilities in May 2015 than in the same period last year. The number of domestic guest arrivals was 2% higher. A 15% increase in foreign guest arrivals was recorded, and the number of overnight stays also increased by 14%.

Some 18% more tourist overnight stays in mountain municipalities

In May 2015, municipalities with spa facilities generated the most overnight stays (29% of all tourist overnight stays). These were followed by seaside and mountain municipalities (21% of all tourist overnight stays) while the Municipality of Ljubljana recorded 14% of all overnight stays.

Majority of tourists stayed at hotels

In May 2015, hotels accounted for two-thirds of tourist overnight stays, camps 12%, and apartment and holiday villages 5%. In comparison to May 2014, a 7% increase in overnight stays was recorded in hotels, and a 17% increase in camps.

German tourists generated one-third more overnight stays

Foreign tourists to Slovenia generated 68% of all tourist overnight stays in May 2015. The key markets from which foreign tourists come to Slovenia are Austria (16% of overnight stays), Italy (14% of overnight stays), Germany (13% of overnight stays) and the United Kingdom, the Russian Federation, Croatia and the United States (4% of overnight stays each). In May 2015, German tourists generated 34% more overnight stays if compared to May 2014, and tourists from Italy and Austria generated 18% and 10% more overnight stays respectively.

The number of guest arrivals is higher by 10% in the first five months of 2015

Some 10% more tourist arrivals were recorded in the first five months of 2015 than in the first five months of 2014. A total number of tourist overnight stays was higher by 7% (domestic by 6% and foreign by 8%).
