Business Insider compiled a list of 16 European destinations which had not yet been subject to mass tourism. It recommends them to everyone who wishes to visit tourist gems and avoid the crowds in peak season. Triglav, Slovenia’s highest mountain, attracted the attention this time.

The American news website, Business Insider, placed Slovenia among destinations not yet affected by mass tourism. Triglav (2,864 m) is particularly interesting. It is considered the symbol of Slovenian nationhood and is also depicted on the Slovenian flag and the coat-of-arms. Views from the top of Slovenia are truly majestic. It is possible to admire the neighbouring two-thousand-metre high peaks, and on a clear day, it is even possible to see all the way to the Adriatic Sea. The Aljaž Tower, a mountain refuge and a cultural monument of national importance, is located on the top of Triglav. This year marks 120 years since its construction.

The Triglav mountain hut on Kredarica is situated below the highest Slovenian mountain, and also serves as a weather station. The mountain hut receives regular supplies from the end of June to the beginning of October and in winter months it is home to meteorologists. The tradition in Slovenian mountains dictates that the hikers should exchange greetings when meeting each other on a trail and perhaps have a quick chat. Hiking is one of the most popular activities among Slovenians.
