In September, the Slovenian pavilion at the EXPO Milano 2015 will host a presentation of the Zasavska region. The area located in central Slovenia developed along the Sava river. Next to the river and the main Slovenian railway line, a mining tradition was established, while the region also used to be home to many famous Slovenes. A Zasavje tourist organization called "V 3 krasne" presents the tourist, cultural and industrial aspects of Zagorje, Trbovlje and Hrastnik.

Slovenia is a land of contrasts, an uneven geographical relief and a varied selection of natural riches. Let the Zasavska region inspire you. The area in central Slovenia developed along the Sava river and the main Slovenian railway line connecting Ljubljana and the Pannonian Plain. The main centre of the region lies close to the city of Trbovlje, which features the highest chimney in Europe. The 360-metre chimney is part of the Trbovlje Thermal Power Station. The former coal mine in Hrastnik was extremely important for the development of the region as it supported rapid industrialization and the establishment of a number of factories. For a long time, the area was considered the working class centre of the former state of Carniola. Glassmaking is another important industry that developed in Zasavje. Steklarna Hrastnik remains one of the world`s finest producers of glass products.

Zasavje is surrounded by hills and forests. There are many paths suitable for hiking and cycling. These paths bring you to numerous farms where you can buy their produce. Climb the top of the Kum mountain and enjoy the wonderful view that opens in front of you. The Sava river is suitable for rafting.

The nature and varied environment in Zasavje have inspired many famous Slovenes. Among them is the famous polymath and scientist Johann Weikhard von Valvasor. The crown jewel of his life achievements was The Glory of the Duchy of Carniola: The First Schematic Presentation of Slovenian History, Territory and Ways of Life, published in 1689.
