Ljubljana among Friendliest Cycling Cities

The Copenhagenize Design Company, an international consultancy for the development of cycling and traffic, rated Ljubljana one of the most cyclist-friendly cities in the world.

Ljubljana, the Green Capital of Europe 2016, is best discovered on foot or by bicycle. The international consultancy for the development of cycling and traffic Copenhagenize Design Company, rated Ljubljana the 13th most cyclist-friendly city in the world. The Slovenian capital thus beat Vienna, Paris, Montreal and other cities. City cycling in Ljubljana began to develop as early as the late 1960s, when the city started building its cycling paths. Today the capital boasts over 133 km of cycling paths.

Take a ride through the city centre, past the famous Triple Bridge. Not long ago, the area was open for buses and cars. Nowadays, the popular meeting point is the centre, which is closed for traffic. See Ljubljana from a BicikeLj bike. Spin the pedals of one of the 360 bicycles available at 36 spots all over the capital. You can also rent a bicycle at STIC Ljubljana at the Krekov trg Square opposite the lower station of the Ljubljana Castle funicular. The iconic Ljubljana Bike bears the colours of the Green Capital of Europe.

You can also use a bicycle to explore the outskirts of Ljubljana. Ride the network of cycling paths across the Ljubljana Marshes that will take you through the natural reserve and landscape park. If you`re looking for a longer trip, go to the source of the Kamniška Bistrica river beneath the Kamnik–Savinja Alps. In Ljubljana, you can also cycle on a culinary adventure and visit the organic farms of central Slovenia.
