Indulge yourself with cherries and a glass of fine wine in the land of invigorating moments. Brda is a new European Destination of Excellence 2015. Eleven Slovenian tourist destinations entered this year´s competition with its focus on Tourism, Local Cuisine and Gastronomy. Experience traditional yet innovative culinary delights from Radovljica, Karst, the Dolenjska region and Bohinj, the finalists of EDEN 2015.

The expert committee from the Slovenian Tourist Board awarded Brda a winning European Destination of Excellence 2015. “The winning destination, Brda, is a prominent culinary and gastronomic destination, where the traveller´s experiences are always related to gastronomy", claims Prof. Dr. Janez Bogataj, a member of the expert committee, adding: "In Brda everybody understands the role and importance of their culinary and gastronomic heritage, which can be the foundation of modern, creative and innovative tourism."

Besides the winning destination, the expert committee also named 4 finalists: Radovljica, Karst, Treats of Dolenjska and Bohinj. All five destinations will be presented as examples of good practice in Europe and supported by the Slovenian Tourist Board and the European Commission in their marketing communication channels. At the same time, the destinations became members of the European Network of EDEN Destinations of Excellence, with the possibility of joining the European association EDEN. Brda joined the winning EDEN destinations of previous years: the Soča Valley, Solčavsko, the Kolpa river, Idrija and Laško.

Brda basks under the glow of the sun in western Slovenia, on the right bank of the Soča River. Green vineyards twist and turn everywhere, along with olive trees and orchards, which bloom every spring, covering Brda with cherry and peach blossoms. The energy of the sun and the passion of the locals for their farming work combine to make sweet fruits, delicious honey and olive oil. Brda must be tasted to be experienced. The cuisine there is simple, but absolutely unique. The “frtalja” omelette is fit for a king, as all sorts of spices from the region between the foothills of the Alps and the sea are mixed in. The unique climate of the region is preserved in the wine. The most famous local white variety is Ribolla, glistening with hues of gold. The Brda vintners keep pure treasure in their cellars, renowned and prized all over the world. What is there left to say? Visit Brda, the land of invigorating moments.
