Colourful autumn brings numerous culinary events to Slovenia. In the valley of the emerald Soča River, specifically in Kobarid, a popular food and art festival called Jestival takes place on 3rd October. The event connects the masterful creation of local chefs and artists. Stroll down the stalls with delicious food. Attend exhibitions and workshops on art, film, music and dance. Enjoy the spirit of Jestival: “De honesta voluptate et valetudine« – on right pleasure and good health.

Have some hot sweet roasted chestnuts, autumn fruits and delicacies from the homesteads along the Sadna cesta (“fruit road”) on 5th, 12th, and 19th October in Janče, near the capital of Slovenia. Chestnuts Sundays present you, in addition to seasonal delicacies, with a display of domestic tasks, such as husking corn, distilling brandy and pressing must. In this playful spirit, venture on a Treasure hunt and compete in guessing the weight of apples and other produce.

In Podsreda in the Kozjansko Park in eastern Slovenia, the traditional Kozjansko Apple Festival takes place in October. This tasty fruit is at the centre of events that take place from 4th to 10th October. It`s quite lively during the first days in the orchards, where hikes, workshops, and lectures take place, and the weekend is dedicated to the hustle and bustle of the fair. Stroll among the stalls which offer fresh apples and delicious fruit cakes, drinks, and other delicacies. Participate in the evaluation of the best apple strudel and proclaim “strudel master”.

Visit the Slovenian coast in November. The traditional Persimmon Festival takes place in Strunjan from 13th to 15th November. Take a bite of the delicious red fruit or treat yourself to a persimmon in other culinary masterpieces. Don`t miss the competition for the largest persimmon of Strunjan or the best taste of persimmon ice cream. Listen to educational lectures and workshops by experts, relax at the art exhibitions or simply enjoy the accompanying cultural program.

Explore the Vineyard Cottages of the Vipavska dolina valley. Between 7th November and 12th December, villages, inns and vineyard cottages hold presentations. Taste the local white wine made from indigenous varieties of Zelen or Vitovska wines. Fill your plate with some Vipava struklji, yota or minestrone. Attend a performance of the oenological group that preserves the cultural traditions of the Vipavska dolina valley.

Welcome to the autumn of festivals in Slovenia!
