Slovenian wineries among the best in the world

One of the most influential magazines specialising in wine, Wine & Spirits, ranked two Slovenian wine cellars in the list of the top 100 in the world.

One of the most influential magazines specialising in wine, Wine & Spirits, ranked two Slovenian wine cellars, Movia and Goriška Brda Kabaj Morel, in the list of the top 100 in the world. The tasting of the best wine will be held in San Francisco on 20th October. The Brda region is known for high quality wines, with the local vine Rebula.

The specialist wine magazine Wine & Spirits selects the best 100 wineries in the world each year. This year two Slovenian wineries joined the elite: Movia and Kabaj. Both come from the western Slovenian region of Brda, the land of invigorating moments, and will present their wines in the company of other top wineries at the gala tasting in San Francisco on 20th October.

Aleš Kristančič, from the small village of Medana in Brda, was born and raised in a wine-producing family. The Movia estate dates back to 1700 and was passed into the hands of the Kristančič family in 1820. Throughout its history, Movia winery has been a synonym for wines with an impressive character and extraordinary elegance, from gentle and light classic wines, through a range of mature wines with good ageing potential, to wines that are unique in the world. With the Movia winery, Aleš was one of the first winemakers to start developing Brda into a wine region and destination.

Jean Michel Morel originates from Paris, but he found his home in Brda in 1989. Kabaj wines are known for their minimalistic etiquette and big wine varieties, from seasonal and traditional wines from Brda to those produced in amphorae by the Georgian method. Since Jean does not like drinks with a high volume of alcohol, Kabaj wines are light, and produce between 60,000 and 70,000 bottles per year. The wines first mature in French barrels for at least a year, and then for several months in bottles.

Visit Movia winery and Guest House Kabaj Morel in Brda, and toast their great success with their best wines. Cheers!
