Planica - renovated home of the Slovenian eagles

The snow queen, Planica, as described by active Slovenians, has a new image this season. The renovated modern Nordic centre invites you to the ski jumping hills and a new cross-country skiing route. As the cradle of Slovenian ski jumping since 1934, it will host important international competitions and World Cups on the calendar of the International Ski Federation. Its official opening is on 11th December.

Planica is known as the proud host of the World Cup Ski Jumping Final every year in March. The renovation of the Nordic centre started in 2011, costing 40 million EUR and 85% funded from the European Fund for Regional Development. The centre now includes 7 ski jumps, the Gorišek Brothers ski flying hill which is the second biggest in the world, and a cross-country skiing centre.

The Nordic centre will operate all year around and will offer exciting adventures for every visitor. The youngest will enjoy the mini adrenaline park. The museum of ski jumping will have a special charm. A unique experience will be provided by the two ski jumping simulators – one for take-off and another for landing. Visitors will transform into judges In the form of a hologram, and judge the ski jumps and talk with the sport legends. Enthusiasts of cross-country skiing will be able to practise on a covered snow trail that will operate from the middle of June until the first snow. The wind tunnel will simulate the feeling of ski jumping through the air. You will be able to feel like a Slovenian Eagle for 2 to 3 times a minute. Summer has already brought an adrenaline adventure, a zip-line on the Gorišek Brothers ski flying hill.
