Day of Slovenian Food and Traditional Breakfast

In November, for the third year in a row, healthy Slovenia celebrated the Day of Slovenian Food. The main objective and purpose of this specially declared day is to support Slovenian producers and processors of food. The celebration takes place every third Friday in November. At the same time a parallel project supports an initiative, called the Traditional Slovenian Breakfast, when many public institutions, especially schools and kindergartens, serve bread, butter, honey, apples and milk from Slovenian producers for breakfast or a snack.

In 2012, the government of Slovenia declared the third Friday in November the Day of Slovenian Food. Among the activities promoting Slovenian producers and the benefits of local food, Slovenian kindergartens and schools organize a project called Traditional Slovenian Breakfast, where teachers introduce the importance of agriculture, the food industry, beekeeping, and maintaining a clean environment in connection with the importance of a healthy and balanced lifestyle and exercise. In this way, children learn about the importance of breakfast and the benefits of locally produced food. The ingredients for breakfast are provided by local producers, which also results in new cooperation between educational institutions and agriculture.

Treat yourself to a traditional Slovenian breakfast – buckwheat bread, butter, honey, apples and milk. Prepare yourself a delicious start to the day!
