The data evidence demonstrates that tourism is an increasingly important economic sector in the country and still shows much potential for further growth.

Tourism in Slovenia accounts for more than 12.7% of GDP, 8% of total exports and approximately 40% of exports of services. At the same time the sector makes a key contribution to Slovenia’s profile as a sustainability-focused tourism destination and a green, active and healthy country.

According to current figures from the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia (SORS), in 2015 the Slovenian tourism sector recorded an increase in tourists of 11% and in overnight stays of 7% compared to the previous year. Slovenia exceeded 10 million overnight stays for the first time since its independence in 1991. With a rise of 12% in the number of foreign tourists and 8% in the number of overnight stays of foreign tourists, tourism in Slovenia recorded remarkable results, with one of the highest increases in incoming tourist arrivals in Europe. According to evaluations, revenues from travel services export will reach their highest level since 2008, approaching 10%.
