Record Year in the Emerald and Active Soča Valley

The Upper Soča Valley has recorded remarkable results, with a 39% increase in visits compared to last year. Favourable weather conditions and systematic promotion activities in foreign markets resulted in a substantial growth in camp visitors, which created more than half of all overnight stays in the region.

The Upper Soča Valley has recorded remarkable results, with a 39% increase in visits compared to last year. Favourable weather conditions and systematic promotion activities in foreign markets resulted in a substantial growth in camp visitors, which created more than half of all overnight stays in the region. Special attention was also given to fishing tourism. By breeding nearly 35 tonnes of marble and rainbow trout, brook trout and grayling a year, the local authorities try to support nature and maintain sport fishing at a very high level.

The towns of Bovec, Tolmin and Kobarid, located in the Soča Valley, have one of the most diverse ranges of natural features in Slovenia and are becoming more and more popular with tourists who particularly appreciate outdoor sports. The Soča Valley, which is surrounded by the high peaks of the Julian Alps, lies within the boundary of the Triglav National Park and offers a variety of sports activities such as road and mountain biking, hiking and walking on numerous trails, and rafting, hydrospeed and kayaking on the Soča and Koritnica rivers.

The Soča Valley is a particularly attractive tourist destination because of its emerald river Soča, which is also the top fly fishing river in Slovenia, followed by the Sava and its tributaries. Fly fishing is the favourite form of angling in Slovenia, with a more than hundred year tradition. Indigenous to the Soča River and a major draw for foreign fishermen is the marble trout. Fishing is also possible in some of the most beautiful Slovenian lakes, such as Lake Bohinj, Lake Bled and the extraordinary large intermittent Lake Cerknica. Enjoy the beautiful, well-preserved environment while fishing for some of the largest species of fish, and connect with the peaceful unspoilt nature of green, active and healthy Slovenia.
