The Committee of the Europe Jazz Network in Rotterdam has unanimously decided that the Jazz Conference 2017 will be held in Ljubljana, under the organisation of Cankarjev dom. The conference will be conducted with the assistance of the Ministry of Culture and the Municipality of Ljubljana, and will be an excellent opportunity for the presentation of Slovenian jazz creativity and of Slovenia’s cultural heritage as a whole. The conference, which is expecting to welcome more than 300 international visitors, will be held in September 2017, featuring various lectures, workshops and concerts of Slovenian artists.

Ljubljana has a long tradition of jazz music. The central international jazz event in Slovenia, which has over the decades presented an impressive array of some of the most eminent jazz and improvising musicians from all over the globe, is the International Ljubljana Jazz Festival. Organized since 1960, the International Ljubljana Jazz Festival is also known as the oldest jazz festival in Europe. The festival takes place predominantly at Cankarjev dom, at the open-air venue Križanke, and occasionally also on the streets of Ljubljana. It is a great honour for Ljubljana to be offered the opportunity to host the prestigious European Jazz Conference, appointed by the Europe Jazz Network (EJN). This important pan-European association of producers, organisers and supporting organisations of European creative music, contemporary jazz and improvised music unites 106 organizations – festivals, clubs and concert venues, independent selectors, and national organisations from 31 countries that are bound together by the belief that creative music contributes to social progress and social and economic growth. The message of the event is that music is a valuable asset which allows coexistence and understanding of people across all cultures in the great European family, presenting a way to promote intercultural dialogue, communication and cooperation. Dive into the magic world of performing arts, music, art galleries and museums. Slovenia’s rich cultural heritage satisfies all kinds of soul hunger for creativity, wisdom or sheer artistic inspiration.
