Excellent Slovenian tourism balance for 2015

Data on the performance of Slovenian tourism in 2015 confirm once again that tourism is an increasingly important industry for Slovenias economy. The value of exports in travel, which amount to approximately 2.2 billion euros, has never been as high as in 2015.

Data on the performance of Slovenian tourism in 2015 confirm once again that tourism is an increasingly important industry for Slovenia`s economy. Slovenia exceeded 10 million overnight stays for the first time since independence. This is 5-times more than the number of Slovenian inhabitantsThe value of exports in travel, which amount to approximately 2.2 billion euros, has never been as high as in 2015. The Bank of Slovenia, besides experiencing an absolute record of 8.8% growth compared to 2014, established a record growth over the last seven years. Exports of travel services in the past year increased by 22%. Exports of travel in terms of growth exceeded the exports in transportation, which is the second largest area of service exports in Slovenia.

In Slovenia tourism accounts for almost 13% of the gross domestic product, representing 8% of total exports and 37% of services exports. In 2015, the tourism sector of Slovenia saw a rise of 11% in the number of tourists and a rise of 7% in the number of overnight stays compared to the previous year.

With rises of 12% in the number of foreign tourists and 8% in the number of overnight stays by foreign tourists, tourism in Slovenia recorded an above-average performance in European and global terms. Tourism also makes a key contribution to Slovenia’s identity of a sustainability-focused, green, active and healthy country, placed on the list of the 10 greenest countries on the planet, where Slovenia was ranked a high fifth of 180 countries.

In 2016 promotional activities are focusing on presenting Slovenia as a green, diverse, boutique destination for wonderful experiences, with the spotlight on this year’s themes of healthy water and Ljubljana as the green capital of Europe.
