Perfect end to the season at Planica

The world ski jumping season came to an end with a perfect scenario. The four-day competition at Planica ended with a spectacular award ceremony and Peter Prevc, the best ski jumper in Slovenia and the world, winning the giant crystal globe.

The world ski jumping season came to an end with a perfect scenario. The four-day competition at Planica ended with a spectacular award ceremony and Peter Prevc, the best ski jumper in Slovenia and the world, winning the giant crystal globe. The finale of the World Cup in ski jumping was accompanied by sunny weather, good flying conditions for the competitors and a record number of cheerful supporters. Together with a record number of visitors, the event also brought a record number of pieces in the media.

March in green, active and healthy Slovenia has traditionally been marked by the finale of the World Cup Ski Jumping at Planica. Each year the event brings sports enthusiasts from all around Europe to Planica and Kranjska Gora. More than 4,000 people came by train from Ljubljana and many used other means of green public transport, which is common practice in Slovenia. Over 60 free bus shuttles were organised from Kranjska Gora to take visitors to the site.

This year, the event was truly spectacular not only because of the perfect weather but also because of the exceptional performance of the Slovene Eagles, as many call the Slovenian ski jumpers. Here are some interesting facts about the World Cup ski jumping at Planica:

* Peter Prevc won 15 competitions in this season, finishing with 2 victories at Planica

* Slovenian jumpers stood on the podium on all four days of the competition

* There were 110,000 visitors over the four days, with 33,000 spectators on the last day

* There were 14,103 mentions of Planica on internet media

* There were 17,000 posts about Planica on social networks (45% on Twitter, 28% on Facebook, 26% on websites, and 1% elsewhere)

With its new Nordic center, Planica is a candidate for the organisation of the Nordic World Championships in 2019.

This season has been also spectacular for the Slovenian champion Peter Prevc, as he has proven to be one of the best ski jumpers in the world, winning the giant crystal globe. He took a place on the podium 22 times, and the Slovenian national anthem was played in his honour 15 times. Popular with his fans in Slovenia and around the world, his name was mentioned more than 16,700 times on social media.
