29% more overnight stays of foreign tourists in March

Compared to March 2015, 14% more tourist arrivals and 13% more overnight stays were registered in tourist accommodation in March 2016. More than a fifth of foreign overnight stays were generated by tourists from Italy. Compared to March 2015, the number of their overnight stays increased by 66%.

Compared to March 2015, 14% more tourist arrivals and 13% more overnight stays were registered in tourist accommodation in March 2016. More than a fifth of foreign overnight stays were generated by tourists from Italy. Compared to March 2015, the number of their overnight stays increased by 66%.

Compared to March 2015, the number of overnight stays and tourist arrivals has increased. The number of foreign tourist arrivals and overnight stays increased by 28% and 29% respectively. It is estimated that the high increase in foreign tourist visits was caused by the fact that this year the Easter holidays were in March (last year in April).

In March 2016 foreign tourists generated 60% of tourist overnight stays in Slovenia. The key markets, from which the most overnight stays of foreign tourists in Slovenia were registered, were Italy (22%), Austria (15%), Germany (10%), Croatia (9%) and Hungary (6%). Tourists from Hungary generated 79% more, from Italy 66% more, from Croatia 38% more and from Germany 28% more overnight stays than in March 2015.

In March 2016 35% of all tourist overnight stays were registered in health (spa) resorts, 20% in mountain resorts, 18% in seaside resorts and 12% in the municipality of Ljubljana. Compared to March 2015, the number of tourist overnight stays increased in all municipalities: in Ljubljana by 24%, in mountain resorts by 22%, in seaside resorts by 16% and in health (spa) resorts by 3%.

In the first three months of this year, 12% more tourist arrivals and 10% more overnight stays were registered in tourist accommodation than in the same period of the previous year. During this time, domestic tourists generated 3% more tourist arrivals and 1% more overnight stays than in the same period of the previous year. By the same comparison the number of foreign tourist arrivals increased by 20% and their overnight stays by 17%.
