Slovenia - big on charm and beauty by Forbes

Green, active and healthy Slovenia inspired the authors of Forbes magazine to write about the huge charm and beauty of our country between the Alps and the Adriatic Sea. The author, Lea Lane, recommends visiting Kranjska Gora, Ljubljana, the European Green Capital 2016, Bled, Piran, Kobarid and Postojna Cave.

Known as the green heart of Europe, Slovenia inspires around the world. Follow the journey of Forbes’ reporter, which inspired the article Little Slovenia, Big on Charm and Beauty, from the Julian Alps to the Adriatic Sea. Start your trip at Kranjska Gora in the north-west part of Slovenia, famous as a ski resort in winter but a perfect destination for hiking and biking in the warmer part of the year.

On the way to central Slovenia stop in Bled, one of the most famous beauty destinations in the country. The town is famous for its lake with its magnificent views of the Julian Alps. Visit Ljubljana, the European Green Capital 2016, with its green spaces, lively events on the Ljubljanica riverbank, cultural experiences and unforgettable urban adventures.

Head south-west and enjoy the experience of the 140-year-old cave train at Postojna Cave, one of the biggest Slovenian tourist attractions and home to the world-famous olm, which is expecting a batch of “baby dragons”. Close by is Predjama Castle with the mysterious legend of Erazem Predjamski. Find out what it tells!

On the Slovenian coastline, Piran is known as one of the most picturesque towns in Slovenia; with lovely colourful houses, the promenade offers a romantic walk and the restaurants delicious seaside cuisine.

After Piran, follow the emerald Soča river towards the north and stop at Kobarid. Surrounded by the Julian Alps, Kobarid is where Ernest Hemingway wrote his novel A Farewell to Arms, and it is a great starting point for hiking on the Walk of Peace, a memorial trail from World War I.
