The European Fine Wine magazine describes green, active and healthy Slovenia as ”the amazing rebirth of the land with old wine”. A special article is dedicated to the Štajerska region and the Podravje wine-growing area. At its centre is Maribor, with the oldest vine in the world, symbolising the rich winemaking tradition of the country. The Posavje wine-growing region in south-east Slovenia is famous for lovely small vineyards; lighter white and red wines are a speciality here. Visit the Primorska wine-growing region in the west of Slovenia; the land here has numerous indigenous types of wine such as Teran, Rebula, Zelen and Pinela.

Read more about the wine country that inspired the authors of the European Fine Wine magazine and visit the wineries recommended to you by the German magazine:

Podravje wine-growing region: Gaube north of Maribor, Kogl at Velika Nedelja, a 20-minute drive to the east from Ptuj, the city with the oldest wine cellar in Slovenia, and Marof in the most north-eastern part of the region. Primorska wine-growing region: Santomas, Klinec, Marjan Simčič and Edi Simčič are wineries from Brda, the land of invigorating moments. Close to Brda is the Vipava Valley with the winery Batič. Posavje wine-growing region: the winery Graben at Bizeljsko.
