The final trip of the Iron Lady

On 2nd May, the train station in Pivka welcomed a military locomotive from the Second World War on the way to its final destination – the Park of Military History Pivka. The steam locomotive 33-110, also known as the Iron Lady, is a German locomotive from 1943 and a valuable museum piece, which will be at display at Pivka.

The 23-metre long and 4.4-metre high steam locomotive will be delivered from the train station in Pivka to the Park of Military History Pivka step by step. The 95-ton beauty from the Second World War is a unique piece of railway history, since this type of locomotive was primarily built to operate for only a couple of years, but this one functioned for decades all over Europe. The Iron Lady, as some like to call her, has a special historical value for Slovenia; her last train journey between Ljubljana and Postojna in 1978 ended the age of steam here.

The town of Pivka in central Slovenia, located 45 minutes south-west of Ljubljana by car, is home to the Park of Military History. With an area of around 2000m2, the park displays numerous valuable exhibits from Slovenian military history, such as the sabotaged submarine P-913, aircraft and armoured vehicles.
