Piran in southwest Slovenia is known for its mesmerising views, traditional salt making, Venetian architecture, romantic sunsets and light salty breeze coming from the sea. In 2015 the town generated over 1.3 million overnight stays, which puts the municipality of Piran at the top of overnight stays in Slovenia. Together with Portorož, Piran was ranked in the top ten Slovenian meeting destinations in 2015.
Piran is a popular tourist destination, which also attracts international film crews from India and South Korea. In 2015, a popular Korean TV show, “Dear My Friends”, was filmed in the streets of the seaside town. The magnificent view from the top of Piran attracts many photographers and it is not surprising that a picture of this lovely coastal town will be on the cover of the new 8th edition of Lonely Planet Slovenia, coming out in May.
