Ljubljana wins the ETIS and Accessible Tourism Award

The European Commission has rewarded Ljubljana for its efforts in sustainable destination management, focused on accessibility and environmental issues. The objectives of the ETIS (European Tourism Indicator System) and Accessible Tourism Awards are to help destinations implementing and measuring sustainable action in the ecological, social and economic fields of tourism.

Ljubljana, the European Green Capital 2016, was awarded the ETIS and Accessible Tourism Joint Award 2016 in the category "Environment and accessibility as a catalyst for sustainable and responsible growth" by the European Commission. With this award, the Slovenian green city received an honorary mention as an ETIS Social and Cultural impact achiever, with special mention for accessibility. The awards are given to some of the most successful destinations working towards a sustainable future.

Ljubljana is one of the greenest cities in the world. This year, it holds the title of the European Green Capital and was the winner of the Tourism for Tomorrow award for the most sustainable destination of 2015. Ljubljana was the first European capital to adopt the Zero Waste Management strategy and was the only city to win the European Mobility Week award twice.
