Successful Slovenian tourism in first two months of 2016

In tourist accommodations 629,000 tourist overnight stays or 7% more than in February 2015 were registered. In the first two months of 2016 more than 1.2 million tourist overnight stays were registered, which is 8% more than in the same period of the previous year (domestic 4%, foreign 12% more).

Successful Slovenian tourism in first two months of 2016

In tourist accommodations 629,000 tourist overnight stays or 7% more than in February 2015 were registered. In the first two months of 2016 more than 1.2 million tourist overnight stays were registered, which is 8% more than in the same period of the previous year (domestic 4%, foreign 12% more).

In February 2016, almost 230,000 tourist arrivals and more than 629,000 overnight stays were registered in tourist accommodations, which is 9% more tourist arrivals and 7% more tourist overnight stays than in February 2015. In the same comparison arrivals of domestic tourists increased by 5% and their overnight stays by 3%. For foreign tourists the increase in tourist flow was even higher; arrivals increased by 14% and overnight stays by 13%.

More than a half of overnight stays generated by domestic tourists

In February 2016 domestic tourists generated 54% of tourist overnight stays in Slovenia, foreign ones 46%. Key markets, from which the most overnight stays of foreign tourists in Slovenia were registered, were Italy (20%), Austria (14%), Croatia and Serbia (11% from each) and Hungary (6%). In February 2016 tourists from Serbia generated 66% more, from Austria 16% more and from Italy 11% more overnight stays than in February 2015.

In hotels 70% of overnight stays, hotel rooms 48% occupied

In February 2016, almost 30,000 units (rooms, apartments, houses, cottages, bungalows, places for camping, moorings for boats) with almost 79,000 bedplaces were available to tourists in Slovenia. In February 2016, 47% of all tourist bedplaces (permanent and auxiliary) were available to tourists in hotels, 10% in camping sites and 8% in private accommodations – rented rooms and dwellings. Permanent bedplaces in hotels were on average occupied 47% and hotel rooms 48% (net occupancy), which is 3 percentage points higher than in the same period last year. In February 2016, 70% of tourist overnight stays were recorded in hotels and 9% in dwellings and apartment settlements.

The highest increase in tourist overnight stays in Ljubljana and health (spa) resorts

In February 2016, the highest number of tourist overnight stays (40% or almost 249,000) was recorded in health (spa) resorts, second placed were mountain resorts (28% or almost 176,000). Compared to February 2015, the number of tourist overnight stays in municipality Ljubljana increased by 18%, in health (spa) resorts by 12%, and in seaside resorts by 3%. In mountain resorts it was the same as in February 2015. Most of tourist overnight stays (10%) were recorded in municipality Kranjska Gora, followed by Ljubljana and Piran (in each 8% of all overnight stays), Brežice (7%), Moravske Toplice and Zreče (each 6%).

In the first two months 11% more tourist arrivals and 8% more tourist overnight stays than in the same period a year ago

In the first two months of 2016 almost 443,000 tourist arrivals were registered in tourist accommodations or 11% more than in the same period of the previous year (domestic 7%, foreign 15% more). In the same comparison the number of tourist overnight stays (almost 1,227,000) increased by 8% (domestic by 4%, foreign by 12%).
