Celebration of Global Green Destinations Day in Slovenia

On the occasion of World Tourism Day, a Global Green Destinations Day will be staged in Ljubljana on 27 and 28 September 2016. The central green destinations event celebrated at the global level will bring together leading experts on sustainable development and green tourism, opinion leaders, representatives of destinations, associations, hoteliers and tourism providers who are striving for sustainable development in tourism. The main partner and co-organiser is Ljubljana Tourism in cooperation with the Slovenian Tourist Board. Ljubljana will be able to host this event due to its prestigious title of European Green Capital 2016. As part of the call for the Top 100 Sustainable Destinations 2016, the most successful green destinations will be featured at this international event. At an official ceremony, awards for responsible operations will be given to selected destinations from around the world and to the best providers of green tourism solutions.

The 2-day international event organised by the international organisation Green Destinations and the Association for Sustainable Tourism, GoodPlace, supported by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council and the European Commission will be a living laboratory of practical green solutions in tourism and examples of good (green) practices. The main topics of the event at individual thematic panels will discuss key aspects of sustainable development in tourism, the development of smart cities and local communities, green transport of today and tomorrow, social changes, sustainable management and the importance of raising awareness on green development in tourism.

Opportunities for business cooperation and networking in the field of sustainable development

The Global Green Destinations Day will bring together leading sustainability-oriented destinations from around the world, tourism providers, hoteliers, representatives of companies providing practical green solutions in tourism and representatives of governmental and non-governmental institutions drafting sustainable policies in order to find new connections, establish strategic partnerships and link international networks whose objective is to promote a brighter and more sustainability-oriented future in tourism.

In addition to the Bled Strategic Forum, the Global Green Destinations Day is the central event focusing on sustainable tourism, which the Slovenian Tourist Board highlights as the key development priority.
