Ljubljana with the journalist Oscar

FIJET`s "La Pomme d`Or" or "The Golden Apple" award is the equivalent to the Oscar in the filming industry. Each year the World Federation of Travel Journalists and Writers (FIJET) dedicates the award to an organization, country, city, or person in recognition of superior efforts in promoting and raising the level of tourism. This year, the winner is Ljubljana, the European Green Capital 2016.

During the official ceremony, which will take place on 24th June in Ljubljana, the Federation’s President, Tijani Haddad will hand the trophy to the Mayor of Ljubljana, Zoran Janković. Ljubljana was nominated for this year`s Golden apple by the Slovenian Federation of Travel Journalists FIJET. The nomination has been supported by Ljubljana outstanding achievements, including the successful implementation of the Vision 2025 and the pursuing of a sustainable transformation of the city - introducing improvements in the filed of marketing, regulation of pedestrian zones, protection of green areas for waste and water, all of which make Ljubljana, The European Green Capital 2016 attractive for local residents and tourists.

All the proposals were first evaluated by the Commission for the Golden Apple award at FIJET and then later approved by the Council of Directors of the national tourist FIJET federations, which consists of more than 20 renowned travel journalists from around the world.
