In collaboration with the Institute for Fisheries Slovenia and the Fishing Association of Slovenia, the Slovenian Tourist Board hosted representatives of the specialist media, the Trout & Salmon magazine. English journalist and biologist Ken Whelan and photographer Gardiner Mitchell presented Slovenia as a perfect destination for fly fishing and healthy waters.
Green, active and healthy Slovenia is refreshing. It is one of the countries in Europe with the most abundant forests and expanses of water. Slovenia’s rivers and lakes are the habitat of 93 species of fish, of which 33 are protected. One of the most beautiful alpine rivers in Europe, the emerald River Soča, invites you to relax while fishing in some of the most beautiful scenery to be found anywhere. It thrilled the authors of the prestigious fishing magazine, Trout & Salmon.
Pay attention to the marble trout, the pride of Slovenia and an endangered fish species. The average size of the fish is around 35cm in the upper reaches, and 40cm in the middle reaches of the emerald green Soča river. Each year anglers catch a few marble trout weighing between 5 and 15kg. The largest specimen ever recorded was caught in 1997: it weighed 25kg, and measured 121cm in length.
