Ljubljana, the European Green Capital 2016, is proud to present one of the most important cultural projects in 2016, the momentous blockbuster exhibition Genesis, a project by the world-renowned photographer, Sebastiao Salgado.

The exhibition is on display in Jakopič Gallery and the City Museum in Ljubljana. It consists of 245 spectacular black-and-white photographs and is divided into five geographical regions: Planet South, Sanctuaries, and Africa (at the City Museum); and Northern Spaces and Amazonia and Pantanal (at Jakopič Gallery).

Three-quarters of the entire territory of Ljubljana is covered by green areas, which makes Ljubljana a perfect location for Salgado’s nature-inspired exhibition. In the past, Salgado has put a great deal of effort into restoring part of the Atlantic Forest in Brazil. He is a co-founder of Instituto Terra, an environmental NGO on a mission of reforestation and nature conservation.

Salgado refers to Genesis as a “love letter to the Planet“. The exhibition has been a source of inspiration for the conservation initiative. My Love Letter to the Planet (#lovelettertotheplanet) encourages exhibition visitors to take part in several campaigns at both local and global levels. The campaigns range from eliminating invasive alien species to cleaning up the environment.

Visitors will also be able to write their own love letters to the planet while discovering the green heart of Ljubljana, the European Green Capital 2016.
