Hostel Celica first sustainably-oriented hostel in the world

Ljubljana, the European Green Capital 2016, ranks among the top green destinations in Europe, as evidenced by the fact it has received international environmental awards. Hostel Celica received the Travelife Certificate and thus became the first certified sustainably-oriented hostel in Slovenia and the world.

"Celica Hostel has always been setting the standards for youth tourism," says the hostel`s director Tomaž Juvan, adding that there is a lot of competition in the market, which is why it`s important to know what added value can be offered: "To offer a sustainable eco story is something that makes the brand stronger and attracts more people."

Hostel Celica is world`s first hostel to fulfil all 150 criteria of sustainability, as defined in the international scheme for the promotion of sustainable operation in the field of tourism. As well as the environmental aspects, the scheme also takes into consideration a company`s cooperation with suppliers, their attitude towards their employees, business operations and also their integration into the local community.

Local and eco-friendly food

The Hostel Celica was among the first to join a project for green supply chains, organised by Turizem Ljubljana. The goal is to offer simple, affordable, well-organised supplies of local food to hotels and restaurants.
