Maribor welcomes Festival Lent

Welcome to the biggest Slovenian open-air festival, Festival Lent, in the second biggest city in Slovenia. Maribor ranked on the list of 10 secret places you must see by USA Today. The Drava River embankment, the oldest vine in the world and one of the oldest synagogues in Europe are only a few of the sights which have contributed to the rich history of Slovenia’s city. According to USA Today, from the article 10 secret places you need to go before everyone else, you should “visit late June through mid July for Lent, the country`s largest festival.” Festival Lent has been taking place on the Drava River embankment for over 20 years and has been awarded by the International Festivals and Events Association (IFEA) several times. During this time, visitors have seen performances by Ray Charles, B.B. King and James Brown, up-and-coming young musicians, stand-up comedians, street performers and other creative artists. This year is no different! Enjoy Festival Lent from 24th June to 2nd July in Maribor.

Lent, where the festival takes place, is the oldest part of Maribor, located along the southern edge of the town walls by the Drava River. It has always been the liveliest part of the old city centre. When walking along the banks of the Drava River look for the oldest vine in the world, a symbol of the rich wine tradition of Slovenia, and stop by the Old Vine House for wine tasting.
