The European Green Capital 2016 has received another award. Ljubljana won the “tourism Oscar” for its excellent achievements in the development of tourism. Every year the Golden Apple Award (La Pomme d`Or) is conferred by the World Federation of Travel Journalists and Writers (FIJET) as recognition for outstanding efforts in promoting and raising the level of tourism.
The Golden Apple award is a recognition for notable achievements in development projects in tourism, the preservation of cultural, natural and historical heritage and its inclusion in offers made to tourists, and outstanding examples of the introduction of the principles of sustainable development in tourism.
“The recognition of the international expert community serves as another confirmation that our city is on the right path and that its services are of the highest quality,” noted the official tourism website of Ljubljana.
The President of FIJET Tijani Haddad presented the award to the Mayor of Ljubljana, Zoran Janković, at an award ceremony in the National Gallery in Ljubljana. The day after the ceremony, in honour of the award, Mayor Zoran Janković and members of FIJET Slovenia planted a local variety of apple tree at Šmartinska Park, to be a permanent green reminder of the award for Ljubljana`s residents and visitors.
