The Kolpa river, the 2010 European Destination of Excellence, is located at the southernmost part of Slovenia, where very special stories emerge in the area uniting five ethnic groups. Rich flora and fauna are hidden in the green forests and the refreshing river. Some mythological heroes have breathed excitement into various adventurous routes. Descend down the green river on a raft or in a canoe. You can also experience the unspoilt nature along the river by foot or on a bike and finish your day by telling stories at the evening fire.

The green whirlpool of life along the Kolpa river

The Kolpa river warms up to the swimming temperature in the summer months, so it is difficult to resist its inviting embrace. Numerous diving boards installed at one of the banks and tree branch jumping ropes encourage swimmers to spice up the experience with a little adrenaline. Children are especially glad when they can become temporary residents of gravelly islets rising from the green river. The natural swimming area at the Kolpa river is also attractive because of the soothing sound of the river rapids. Do tap them with your paddle. Descend down the Kolpa river and admire its green kingdom. You will find a rental shop with kayaks and rafts offering organised boat trips in almost every town.

Glamorous tents and local delicacies

The Bela krajina and Kočevje regions pamper all senses. Treat your taste buds to the Tastes of Bela krajina in selected restaurants: belokranjska pogača (a type of bread), belokranjska povitica (rolled cake), belokranjsko cvrtje (fried dough), ajdova potica z rozinami (buckwheat rolled cake with raisins) and others. The most healthy and delicious choice to take home with you is the famous honey from Kočevje with a protected designation of origin. Pleasantly filled on the food, you can spend the night in the embrace of nature. Pure glamour under thousands of stars! There is a glamping complex located among the green vineyards, which offers the comfort of a true resort in its innovatively designed wooden tents. The Turizem Malerič glamping complex is surrounded by meadows and woods from all sides. There is a natural swimming area in the centre, which invites you to take a splash in healthy water.

Ride a bike or take a walk through the regional park

There are many walking, hiking and cycling trails that run along the Kolpa river. The pleasant harmony of the unspoilt nature and cultural heritage is reflected in every Kolpa river story. Observe the lively nature and rare species of birds. Discover the stories of old water and wood mills along the way. There are especially many located along the Sejemska pot trail, which leads along the river and reveals the typical cultural landscape of the area. The southernmost Slovenian walking path leading from Radenci to Damelj winds along the Kolpa river. The path leads past the Trpotec well; they say that with the sip of the local spring water one consumes eternal youth. Feeling refreshed, you can head on to the still operating mill on the Kolpa river and later on explore the longest karst cave in Bela Krajina called Kobiljača.
