Step into the world of the MYSTERIOUS KARST

The Slovenian Tourist Board, in cooperation with key tourist stakeholders in the Karst region, has launched a new publication, “The Mysterious Karst”. The newly released publication is an important step forward in the joint promotion of the destination, and gives its readers comprehensive information on the area around Brkini, Karst, the Notranjska region and the karst caves.

The Slovenian Tourist Board, in cooperation with key tourist stakeholders in the Karst region, has launched a new publication, “The Mysterious Karst”. The newly released publication is an important step forward in the joint promotion of the destination, and gives its readers comprehensive information on the area around Brkini, Karst, the Notranjska region and the karst caves.

In green, active and healthy Slovenia there is a region of mighty forests, breathtaking underground cave systems and typical karst phenomena. It is also a land of exciting historical monuments and genuine people. Listen to the story of Karst – the stone with a soft heart.

The Slovenian Tourist Board has launched a new publication, the Mysterious Karst, which was produced in cooperation with the key local tourism stakeholders: the Tourist Association Brkini, the Karst, the Notranjska region and several partner destinations, including 10 municipalities around the area. It is an important marketing and communication tool that represents a step forward in the cooperation and integration of tourism providers.

Postojna Cave is a world-famous marvel with a 140-year old cave train, stalagmites of extraordinary shapes and figures, and an olm (a “baby dragon”), which has thrilled more than 36 million visitors in the last 200 years.

Predjama Castle is a majestic symbol of defiance as the largest cave castle in the world, listed in the book of Guinness World Records and with a special legend about the knight Erazem of Predjama.

Škocjan Caves are a UNESCO World Heritage Site for the largest known underground canyon in the world.

Lipica Stud Farm is the oldest European stud farm and known for the noble white Lipizzaner horses and their dark foals. Their presentation of Classical Riding School is spectacular.

The Park of Military History Pivka is a museum-tourism centre with an exhibition of tank-, artillery- and aviation-related equipment and a new exhibition on the birth of Slovenia as a nation and the 1991 War of Independence.

Lokev is the largest village in the Karst. It is home to three private museums, three prosciutto producers and eight restaurants – perfect for your taste-buds.
