A total of 60 athletes are representing green, active and healthy Slovenia in the Rio Olympic Games. Slovenia is known for its success in large international competitions. Cheer for your favorite sportspeople and feel Slovenia in Brazil!

Feel Slovenia at Rio

A total of 60 athletes are representing green, active and healthy Slovenia in the Rio Olympic Games. While for many these are their first Olympics, the Slovenian team also includes some top athletes, especially in judo, kayaking, canoeing and sailing. Slovenia is known for its success in large international competitions. Cheer for your favorite sportspeople and feel Slovenia in Brazil!

The 2016 Summer Olympics, known as the Games of the XXXI Olympiad, and commonly known as Rio 2016, have started. Vasilij Žbogar, the only Olympic medallist on the Slovenian Rio team, who competes in sailing, carried the Slovenian flag at the official opening ceremony on Friday. Until the end of Rio 2016 on 21st August, 60 Slovenian athletes will perform under the Slovenian flag, competing for top results in 15 different sports, of which handball is the only team sport.

The President of the Slovenian Olympic Committee, Bogdan Gabrovec, is hoping for six medals. Between four and five medals at each Olympic games has become the standard for Slovenian athletes since Athens 2004 (3 bronze and 1 silver medal), putting the country in the top six in the world when it comes to medal tallies per capita.

Many other successful athletes and Olympic medalists from Slovenia are joining the Olympic Team in Rio. At the head of the team is Iztok Čop, a rower, the World Champion and Olympic gold medallist in Sydney in 2000, which was the first Olympic gold medal for Slovenia since its independence. The head of the cheering and supporting delegation is Sara Isaković, a swimmer and Olympic silver medallist in Beijing in 2008.
