Wining, dining and more in Štajerska

Slovenia is famous for its excellent wines. Take a walk around the vineyards and be part of the traditional grape harvesting. For an unforgettable hiking experience try the Vinotour festival. The first international Nordic walking trail leads you through the vineyards, passing the farms and wineries in Slovenia and Austria. Feel like a local and enjoy wining and dining in Maribor, the second largest Slovenian city and the home of the oldest vine in the world.

The customs surrounding grape harvesting vary in the different Slovenian wine-growing regions, but all guarantee an authentic experience of the Slovenian countryside. Spend a weekend among the vineyards of Štajerska! The winemakers and vineyard owners will always gladly welcome an additional pair of hands during harvesting time, and there are numerous tourist packages available. They include experiences at tourist farms, where you can also spend the night among the hills. Excellent homemade wines and local food are guaranteed.

If you are a hiking enthusiast you will love the first international Nordic walking trail, Vinotour, where you can choose between three routes of different lengths. What is special about these Nordic walking trails is that you can start wherever you feel like it and adapt its length to your wishes.

The trail that will lead you to the oldest vine in the world ends in Maribor. From 2nd October to 11th November 2016 there is an Old Vine Festival which honours the oldest vine in the world, still growing in Maribor. Enjoy the culinary delights made by local chefs and pick your favourite food souvenir at the culinary marketplace, full of cheesemakers and beekeepers. For the finishing touch go for some Old Vine tastings - something you can experience only in Maribor at the time of the Old Vine Festival.
