Under the title `Safeguarding the Future`, the 11th Bled Strategic Forum will take place on 5th and 6th September 2016. Organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with the Centre for the European Perspective, the Bled Strategic Forum has become a leading high-level conference in the region and is developing into a successful platform for strategic debate for leaders and decision makers. Taleb Rifai, the Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), will be the keynote speaker in the field of tourism and travel.

A tourism panel with the title “Security and Sustainability in Tourism” will be held on Tuesday, 6th September in the Grand Hotel Toplice, Bled (in the Grand Hall) at 10am. With the Slovenia Green national certification programme and Ljubljana as the European Green Capital 2016, Slovenia has become one of the leading countries in sustainable development and is the host of the Global Green Destinations Day later this year.

Taleb Rafai has held his position since January 2010, and during that time he has shown his affection for Slovenia on several occasions. Recently, at the ITB Berlin convention where Slovenia received the Patwa International Award as the fastest-growing tourist destination, Mr. Rifai highlighted our country with the following words: "If you have not visited Slovenia yet, you have not lived."

The main debates of the BSF 2016 will be safety in the contemporary world, water risks from the global perspective, European integration, energy geopolitics, the hidden dimensions of international relations, smart cities (Business BSF) and youth mobility (Young BSF).
