Postojna Cave welcomes its 37 millionth visitor

On Wednesday, 24th August, Postojna Cave welcomed its 37-millionth visitor. The first explorers of Postojna Cave left their mark and signature back in the 13th century. The cave has been open for tourist visits since 1818 and has, since then, hosted millions of visitors.

The 37-millionth visitor to Postojna Cave was Zinka Kolenc from Slovenia. She was visiting the cave with her two grandsons on the day when the management of Postojna Cave announced that they were expecting a new milestone. The lucky grandmother and her family received the gift of visits to 22 tourist attractions around Slovenia. They were not the only ones celebrating. The management organised an entertaining program for all the visitors, who danced along to the music, played the accordion, had some cake and enjoyed the happy occasion.

The year 2016 was also marked by a rare phenomenon when the olm in Postojna Cave surprised the world with a batch of baby dragons and turned everyone’s attention to Slovenia and the mysterious underground Karst world.

Postojna Cave has been recording each of its visitors since 1818. It is the most visited attraction in Slovenia and is also on the Lonely Planet’s list of 500 must-see attractions across the world.
