Foreign guest arrivals up by 10% in the first seven months

According to provisional data provided by the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia, Slovenian tourism recorded an 8% increase in tourist arrivals from January, up to and including July, and a 6% increase in overnight stays compared to the same period in 2015.

Excellent results were achieved last year by Slovenian tourism when, for the first time since gaining independence, Slovenia recorded more than 10 million tourist overnight stays and €2.2 billion in tourism-related revenue. This trend has continued in the first seven months of this year. In the period from January, up to and including July, a total of 8% more tourist arrivals and 6% more overnight stays have been recorded, compared to the same period last year. The number of foreign tourists increased by 10%, and the number of their overnight stays increased by 8%. Domestic tourism generated 4% more arrivals in the first seven months of this year and 1% more overnight stays.

This current data on the performance of Slovenian tourism once again demonstrates that tourism is an increasingly important industry in our green, active and healthy country, which also shows great potential for further growth. In Slovenia, tourism contributes 13% to the gross domestic product, it accounts for 8% of total exports and 38% of the import of services, and it also accounts for 13% of all employed people in Slovenia. Furthermore, tourism is an industry that greatly contributes to the recognisability of Slovenia, placing it as a green, active, and healthy country focused on sustainability.
