The town of Pivka in central Slovenia, located only a 45-minute drive south-west of Ljubljana, is famous for its Festival of Military History. The 10th edition will take place from 9th to 18th September.
The town of Pivka in central Slovenia, located only a 45-minute drive south-west of Ljubljana, is famous for its Festival of Military History. The 10th edition will take place from 9th to 18th September. The central ceremony will take place on Wednesday 14th September with a concert by the Slovenian Army Orchestra, while the peak of the Festival will take place on Sunday, 18th September.
The Festival of Military History will begin on 9th September with the opening of the exhibition Gradišče - silent witnesses of history. On Wednesday, 14th September, a concert of the Slovenian Army Orchestra will take place in the Skala Sports Hall. Thursday 15th September will be marked by the opening of the Park’s exhibition, Archery - the originality of prestige.
Saturday`s programme will begin with an Open Day at the Barracks of Stanislav Požar in Pivka and an orientation walk through military history. At 10:00am, a simulation of life in the military camps from different historical periods will be on the programme.
The highlight of the Festival of Military History will be on Sunday, 18th September. The main event, a dynamic presentation of the special units of the military police and the helicopter unit of the Slovenian Armed Forces, is scheduled between 15:00 and 15:30. Throughout the day, the Park of Military History will host a meeting of vintage military vehicles. Part of Sunday`s events is also a fair of military and domestic products, workshops for children and a special military kitchen.
