2018 declared as the tourism year of the EU and China

The President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, and the Prime Minister of the National Council of the People`s Republic of China, Li Keqiang, have declared the year 2018 the tourist year of the European Union and China.

The "EU-China Tourism Year" is an excellent opportunity for the European travel industry to explore the Chinese market, as well as to obtain information on how to attract Chinese visitors, since China is one of the largest tourism markets in Europe. "China remains one of the most important future markets for European tourism, and that there is a designated year for tourism co-operation is of course to be welcomed,” commented Tom Jenkins, the CEO of the European Tour Operators Association (ETOA).

After recognising that European destinations were visited by 10.1 million Chinese tourists in 2015, business activities started to consolidate in this market. The trend has also been recognised by the Slovenian Tourist Board, which successfully connects with the People`s Republic of China, in cooperation with the countries of Central and Eastern Europe (CEE).
