MICHELIN Keys 2026: Slovenia in the Global Hotel Selection

Slovenia has strengthened its presence in the MICHELIN Guide’s global hotel selection for 2026, with 24 properties now recommended by Michelin inspectors and five hotels holding prestigious MICHELIN Keys. The latest edition, unveiled on 18 September, also brings a new name to Slovenia’s list of Key holders: Vila Muhr in Bohinj.

The 2026 selection offers another sign of Slovenia’s growing visibility on the international boutique and luxury travel map. Vila Muhr in Bohinj has received one MICHELIN Key for the first time, joining a small group of Slovenian properties recognised for an outstanding hotel experience. Chalet Sofija holds two Michelin Keys, while Grad Otočec, AS Boutique Hotel and Zlata Ladjica Boutique Hotel each hold one.

The MICHELIN Key is the hotel counterpart to the Michelin Star and is awarded to properties that stand out for the overall quality of the stay. Michelin inspectors assess hotels according to criteria including architecture and interior design, service, character, value for money and the way a property connects guests with its destination.

New Slovenian names enter the Michelin selection

Beyond the Key holders, the 2026 edition also expands MICHELIN’s wider hotel selection in Slovenia.

Among the newly included properties are Vila Pavlina, Triangel Boutique Hotel and Milka Boutique Hotel in Kranjska Gora; April1550 Boutique Hotel and Hotel Heritage in Ljubljana; Hotel Palace Portorož and DeGrassi Boutique Garni Hotel in Izola.

The full Slovenian selection comprises 24 properties. Alongside those already mentioned, it includes Kendov Dvorec, Vander Urbani Resort, InterContinental Ljubljana, Hotel Bohinj, Peterc Vineyard Estate, Bloom Hotel, Tivoli Boutique Inn, ALPIK Chalets, Grand Hotel Union Eurostars, ONE66 Hotel, Nebesa Chalets and Hotel Nox.

A wider European trend

Slovenian properties are part of MICHELIN’s broader European hotel selection, currently the largest Key collection in the world, with more than 1,300 Key hotels.

Across Europe, MICHELIN awarded almost 200 new Keys or upgrades in 2026, reflecting a broader shift towards highly individualised stays, distinctive design and accommodation that is closely connected to its location.

For Slovenia, the latest selection adds international recognition to a hospitality scene increasingly defined by small-scale luxury, strong local identity and highly individual properties — from the Julian Alps and Ljubljana to the coast and wine regions.
