Slovenia Ranks Second in the EU for Growth in Accommodation Bookings via Online Platforms

Eurostat has published data for the first quarter of 2026 on online bookings of short-term accommodation in the EU. Malta recorded the highest growth (+30.5%), followed by Slovenia (+24.7%).

According to Eurostat, in the first quarter of this year, guests spent more than 144 million nights in short-term accommodation booked through the Airbnb, Booking or Expedia platforms. The total number of overnight stays in short-term rental accommodation booked via online platforms increased by 9.7% in the first quarter of 2026 compared with the same quarter of 2025, and by 16.6% compared with the same quarter of 2024.

Malta recorded the highest growth (+30.5%), followed by Slovenia (+24.7%), Slovakia (+23.5%) and Cyprus (+22.3%). Double-digit growth was also recorded in Finland (+19.1%), Czechia (+18.4%), Ireland (+15.7%), Croatia (+15.6%), Greece and Germany (both +14.9%), Italy (+14.7%), Sweden (+13.3%), Poland (+11.9%), and Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania (all +11.3%).
