Tour de France 2026: Tadej Pogačar Targets a Fifth Yellow Jersey

Weeks before the start of the Tour de France, Slovenia is once again at the centre of global attention. Serial winner and the ambassador of Slovenian tourism Tadej Pogačar is aiming to claim one of sport's greatest prizes once again – the coveted yellow jersey of the Tour de France. During the race, the Slovenian Tourist Board (STB) is running a dedicated digital campaign showcasing Slovenia as a destination for active outdoor experiences.

Why the Tour de France Is Once Again All About Slovenia

The Tour de France is one of the world's most-watched sporting events and the most prestigious race in professional cycling. As the 113th edition gets underway, all eyes are on one question: can anyone stop Tadej Pogačar?

All eyes will be on Tadej Pogačar, the champion capable of conquering every type of climb. In fact, the diversity of climbs defines this year's route. While it perfectly suits Pogačar's strengths, the 2026 course has also been designed to give his rivals a genuine opportunity to challenge him. (Tour de France official media guide)

Roglič and Pogačar: Five Grand Tour Titles Each

For the past six years, Slovenian cyclists have been among the defining figures of the Tour de France. It was Primož Roglič and Tadej Pogačar who first propelled Slovenia into the global cycling spotlight in 2020 through a series of unforgettable duels that captivated millions of fans worldwide.

They have been joined by other outstanding Slovenian riders, including Matej Mohorič, winner of three Tour de France stages, as well as Luka Mezgec, Jan Tratnik and Domen Novak, who have played vital support roles for their respective teams.

Building on its partnership with Eurosport during the Tour of Slovenia, the STB is also promoting Slovenia throughout the Tour de France with a comprehensive digital content campaign across key international markets before, during and after the race. Both Tadej Pogačar and Primož Roglič feature prominently as ambassadors of Slovenian tourism.

Roglič May Be Absent, But His Legacy Remains

The Tour de France holds legendary status among riders and fans alike and remains one of the world's greatest sporting spectacles. Slovenia has the unique privilege of having two riders who have written some of the race's most memorable chapters.

Although Primož Roglič is not competing this year, his name continues to resonate throughout the cycling world. Social media is filled with highlights of his greatest Tour stage victories, reminding fans why the five-time Grand Tour winner remains one of the defining figures of modern cycling. While the Tour de France title has eluded him, his performances have left an enduring legacy that continues to inspire cycling enthusiasts every July.

This year's race also marks the return of the iconic mountain stage – being contested for the 18th time – where Roglič famously defeated the then-young Tadej Pogačar in 2020.

More Than Just a Cycling Race

The Tour de France is far more than a sporting event – it is a global phenomenon. The race is broadcast in around 190 countries, with each stage attracting between 3.5 and 5.5 million television viewers in France alone, while the most popular stages can draw audiences of up to eight million.

An estimated 10 to 15 million spectators line the roads each year, while the Tour's official social media channels reach around 10 million followers. During the race, digital content generates up to one billion views.

Three Slovenians Set to Shape the Race

This year, three Slovenian riders are attracting significant international attention before the race has even begun: Tadej Pogačar, Jan Tratnik and Matej Mohorič. Unsurprisingly, the spotlight shines brightest on Pogačar as he pursues a fifth Tour de France title.

His exceptional spring campaign has once again impressed cycling experts around the world, while his humility, authenticity and approachable personality continue to win over fans everywhere. Since claiming his first Tour de France victory in 2020, Pogačar has become one of the sport's most recognisable global figures, inspiring audiences far beyond the cycling community.

Through his sporting achievements, humanitarian engagement and role as an ambassador of Slovenian tourism, he continues to strengthen Slovenia's international profile and reinforces the country's reputation as a world-class destination for cycling and active outdoor experiences – where athletes, organisers and fans alike can discover the beauty of its green landscapes and embrace an active way of life.
