New Guide Showcases Slovenia's Historical Towns as Gateways to Authentic Cultural Experiences

The new guide invites travellers and media alike to discover 25 historical towns across all four Slovenian tourism regions through authentic experiences, local stories, and sustainable travel. It is available in English, German, and Slovenian.

Slovenia's compact geography and remarkably dense network of historical towns make it possible to experience centuries of history, culture, and local traditions within short travelling distances. A new guide, Historical Towns: Exploring Towns of Culture My Way, invites travellers and media alike to discover 25 historical towns across all four Slovenian tourism regions through authentic experiences, local stories, and sustainable travel.

Rather than simply highlighting major landmarks, the guide encourages visitors to explore at their own pace. Each town is presented through its architectural heritage, local gastronomy, artisan traditions, cultural events, and suggestions for exploring the surrounding countryside. Together, they reveal a Slovenia where heritage is not confined to museums but remains a living part of everyday life – expressed through historic streets, local crafts, cuisine, festivals, and encounters with residents.

One of Slovenia's greatest advantages is the unique connection between culture and nature. In many of its historical towns, rivers, forests, vineyards, and scenic landscapes are just a short walk away, allowing visitors to combine cultural discovery with outdoor experiences in a single trip.

Published by the Slovenian Tourist Board in cooperation with the Association of Historical Towns of Slovenia, the guide supports Slovenia's positioning as a destination for year-round cultural travel and slow, immersive experiences. It is available in English, German, and Slovenian.

Browse the guide and discover a different side of Slovenia – one town at a time.
