Slovenia’s Tourism Intelligence Platform Marks Its First Year with Nearly 1,400 Users

Slovenia’s Tourism Intelligence Platform Marks Its First Year with Nearly 1,400 Users

One year after its launch, Slovenia’s National Tourism Information Centre (NiST) has become a valuable resource for tourism professionals, destination managers, researchers, and decision-makers seeking data-driven insights into Slovenian tourism. Nearly 1,400 registered users have already embraced the platform, generating more than 90,000 page views, with an average visit lasting over 11 minutes.

Developed by the Slovenian Tourist Board, NiST was established as a modern data and intelligence platform designed to bring together previously fragmented tourism data and transform it into accessible, actionable insights. By combining data, indicators, visualisations, and analyses in a single environment, the platform supports more informed decision-making across the tourism sector.

Supporting a Data-Driven Future for Slovenian Tourism

NiST was created to serve anyone who relies on reliable, transparent, and easy-to-use tourism data. The platform enables users to monitor environmental, social, and economic tourism impacts while supporting evidence-based decision-making in destination management, sustainable development, marketing, and strategic planning.

Through interactive dashboards, practical use cases, and advanced filtering options, users can explore data by destination, period, and a range of other parameters. The most frequently consulted indicators include visitor arrivals, average length of stay, and source-market profiles. Rather than simply accessing statistics, users turn to NiST for meaningful insights that support analysis, benchmarking, and strategic decision-making.

Bringing Tourism Data Together in One Place

The platform addresses the needs of a broad range of users, including destinations, tourism providers, local communities, researchers, students, media representatives, and policymakers. Its greatest strength lies in bringing together data that was previously scattered across multiple sources, placing it into context and making it accessible regardless of a user’s level of expertise.

The Slovenian Tourist Board will continue to enhance and expand the platform, with a strong focus on user experience, accessibility, and the development of new content and analytical tools. Future upgrades will further strengthen stakeholders’ ability to understand tourism trends and apply data effectively in their daily work.

Training, Knowledge Sharing, and International Recognition

To support users, the Slovenian Tourist Board organised a series of four educational workshops in autumn 2025, attended by around 140 representatives of destinations and other tourism stakeholders. The workshops provided practical guidance on using the platform’s analytical tools, visualisations, and comparison features to support strategic decision-making.

For those unable to attend, a collection of educational video tutorials remains available, offering step-by-step guidance on the platform’s core functionalities, data visualisation tools, and filtering options.

Since its launch, NiST has also attracted international attention. The platform has been presented at numerous professional events in Slovenia and abroad and was showcased as a best-practice example at the 19th UN Tourism/PATA Forum in China, one of the tourism sector’s leading international gatherings.

The development of NiST was supported through Slovenia’s Recovery and Resilience Plan and financed by the European Union under the NextGenerationEU programme.
