Slovenia’s Finest Flavours at Exclusive Multi-Day Gastronomy Press Event

Last week, the Slovenian Tourist Board (STB), in partnership with JRE Slovenia, hosted a multi-day event for international media dedicated to Slovenian gastronomy. As part of the programme, journalists from eight countries — including representatives of Travel + Leisure, Food & Wine, Luxe Infinity, De Zondag, Metronieuws, Esdario, Novinky, Vince Magazine, and Kukbuk — were discovering the culinary stories of Ljubljana, the Posavje region, and Dolenjska.

The programme combined fine dining, sustainability, local stories, wine culture, and encounters with the creators of contemporary Slovenian cuisine.

The event began in Ljubljana with a dinner at JAZ by Ana Roš, where guests were personally welcomed by Ana Roš, one of the world’s most recognised chefs. Throughout the following days, participants are exploring the gastronomic gems of eastern Slovenia — from the unique repnica underground cellars and wine estates of Bizeljsko to some of the leading culinary addresses of Posavje and Dolenjska.

Particular attention has already been drawn to Ošterija Debeluh, led by Jure Tomič, recently named Chef of the Year by Gault&Millau Slovenia. The group has also visited the Keltis and Kozinc wineries, while the previous evening concluded at Tri Lučke.

One of the central moments of the journey took place at Gostilna Repovž, recognised by JRE as Slovenia’s most sustainable restaurant. Renowned Slovenian chefs and restaurateurs — Grega Repovž, David Žefran, Nina Bratovž, Jure Tomič, Marko Pavčnik, and Gregor Jelnikar — joined journalist Kaja Sajovic for a discussion about the future of gastronomy, hospitality, and Slovenia’s position on the global culinary map.

The programme continued with a special four-hands dining experience bringing together the Repovž family and David Žefran from Restaurant Milka. Originally from the Dolenjska region, Žefran is symbolically returning to his home environment while connecting it with one of Slovenia’s most acclaimed fine dining stories. The evening will conclude at Gostilna Rakar.

As World Bee Day was celebrated globally on 20 May following Slovenia’s initiative, the programme also includes a special honey-themed experience from the Slovenia Unique Experiences collection. The event concluded with presentations of local cuisine and wine traditions at Trška Gora and at the Festival of Cviček wine, where guests will discover one of Dolenjska’s most characteristic wine stories. Participants stayed overnight at Grad Otočec, the only water castle hotel in Slovenia.

Through initiatives such as this, the Slovenian Tourist Board and its partners continue to strengthen Slovenia’s international reputation as a boutique gastronomic destination built on sustainability, local stories, and outstanding culinary creators.
