Celebrating World Bee Day: A Buzz-Worthy Slovenia Unique Experience

What if you could step into the secret world of bees – not behind glass, but right beside the hive, breathing in the scent of honey and wild herbs while listening to the calming hum of thousands of bees? This time, we are spotlighting “A Sweet Honey Experience”, a unique apitourism story proudly carrying the Slovenia Unique Experiences label.

In Slovenia, this is not just possible – it is becoming one of the country’s most fascinating tourism experiences.

As the world marks World Bee Day, Slovenia is inviting travellers to discover why bees are woven so deeply into the country’s culture, wellbeing, gastronomy and sustainable way of life. The green heart of Europe, which initiated World Bee Day at the United Nations in 2017, has transformed its centuries-old beekeeping heritage into exciting experiences that are unlike anything else in Europe.

One of the most unforgettable takes place in Novo mesto, where visitors are welcomed into the Honey Garden of the Stankovič family – a place where beekeeping knowledge has been passed down through generations of women for more than 100 years.

This is far from a traditional apiary visit. Here, guests can safely meet the queen bee without protective gear, observe the fascinating choreography inside the hive, inhale therapeutic bee aerosols in a wooden apitherapy hive, and relax to the soothing sound of buzzing bees while lying in a hammock surrounded by nature.

The experience begins with a scenic walk along the Krka River and unfolds through tastings of golden honey delicacies, herbal drinks and homemade mead, guided by beekeeper and apitherapist Tjaša and biologist Andreja. Visitors explore a lush herbal-honey garden with more than 100 honey-bearing plants, discover how bees shape biodiversity, and create their own beeswax souvenir over an open fire.

The Sweet Honey Experience proudly carries the Slovenia Unique Experience label, reserved for Slovenia’s most authentic and sustainable boutique experiences.

In Slovenia, bees are not only essential pollinators – they are storytellers of a landscape shaped by tradition, nature and respect for the environment. From painted beehive panels and honey-based cuisine to bee wellness and apitherapy, the country has created an entirely new way for travellers to reconnect with nature.
