New Long-Distance Hiking Route Pohorje–Kozjak Trail Officially Opens in June

A new long-distance hiking route, the Pohorje–Kozjak Trail, will officially open for the first time on Saturday, 13 June 2026, at 8:30 a.m. This new circular trail connects the forested landscapes of Pohorje and Kozjak, inviting hikers to discover some of Slovenia’s most pristine green areas while slowing down and reconnecting with nature far from the pace of everyday life.

Stretching across 20 stages and covering a total of 174 kilometres, the trail represents one of the largest joint development projects of the Partnership for Pohorje in the field of hiking tourism. The initiative marks an important milestone in positioning the wider Pohorje region as one of Slovenia’s leading outdoor destinations.

The official opening will also include a guided hike to Areh, where the traditional Slovenian Mountaineers’ Day, organized by the Alpine Association of Slovenia, will take place. The route to Areh is easy and family-friendly, making it suitable for hikers of all generations, including families with children.

Blending dense forests, panoramic ridges, local stories, and authentic nature experiences, the new Pohorje–Kozjak Trail offers a new way to explore one of Slovenia’s most scenic and lesser-discovered hiking regions.
