Nearly 1.6 Million Passengers Passed Through Slovenian Airports – Growth Driven by Expanding Connections

Slovenia’s airports handled nearly 1.6 million passengers last year, up 11% year-on-year – signalling strengthening international connectivity and easier access to the country for both travellers and media.

At the centre is Ljubljana Airport, which continues to expand its network of scheduled routes. The data highlights not only strong demand on established connections – particularly with Germany, Slovenia’s largest market – but also notable shifts in emerging routes.

The standout story is the surge in traffic to the Netherlands, which grew by 63%, pointing to increasing demand and improved accessibility from Western Europe. At the same time, connections with Turkey and the United Kingdom remain strong, reinforcing Slovenia’s position across key international markets.

Charter travel also reveals evolving travel patterns. Popular leisure routes to Egypt and Greece continue to dominate, while growing passenger numbers on routes to Montenegro suggest rising regional connectivity in Southeast Europe.

The takeaway is clear: Slovenia is becoming increasingly accessible from a wider range of markets, with both traditional and emerging connections shaping visitor flows. This improved air network directly supports Slovenia’s positioning as a year-round destination – making it easier to reach, cover, and include in broader European itineraries.
