Slovenia to Host the Green Destinations Conference Again After Ten Years

Slovenia will once again host the international Green Destinations conference in October 2026, marking its return to the country after a decade. The event will take place from 27 to 29 October in Kranj, a Slovenia Green Platinum destination, and will bring together experts in sustainable tourism from around the world.

ISlovenia will welcome the Green Destinations conference back to its calendar of international events. Taking place from 27 to 29 October in Kranj, the event is one of the leading global gatherings dedicated to sustainable tourism and returns to Slovenia after ten years.

The conference will be hosted in Kranj, Slovenia’s third-largest city and a holder of the Slovenia Green Platinum label. It will bring together experts, destination representatives, decision-makers, and other tourism stakeholders focused on advancing sustainable and responsible tourism practices.

Participants will be able to choose from different attendance options, including conference-only tickets and combined tickets with a dinner experience. As part of the programme, a pre-conference training titled “From Claims to Evidence: Integrating Multi-Level Certification into Destination Management, Visitor Experience, and Market Positioning” will take place on 26 and 27 October.

The training, developed by Green Destinations and the Good Travel Institute, draws on the experience of more than 200 destinations worldwide. It focuses on sharing best practices, addressing challenges, and highlighting key trends in certification and sustainable destination management. The programme is designed to support destinations in transitioning to a new multi-level certification system and to strengthen their ability to communicate sustainability in a credible and meaningful way, including its integration into the visitor experience.

Participants will gain:

  • a clear understanding of the multi-level certification framework and transition process,
  • strategies for aligning governance, KPIs, marketing, and product development,
  • tools for credible sustainability communication and avoiding overclaiming,
  • practical insights from real-life destination case studies.

Organisers have announced that further programme details, including the schedule, study tours, and site visits, will be released at a later stage. The Green Destinations Conference 2026 represents a continued effort to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange in the field of sustainable tourism development.
