Slovenian Spas Report Strong Easter Demand, with Italian Guests Leading International Arrivals

Slovenia’s spa destinations are reporting strong occupancy rates over the Easter holidays, comparable to – or slightly exceeding – last year’s performance. The average length of stay remains relatively short, typically between two and four nights. Among international visitors, Italians continue to dominate, followed by guests from Austria, Croatia, and Germany, according to the Slovenian Spas Association.

Easter is traditionally one of the best-performing periods in the spring season, with many spa resorts nearing full capacity and only limited availability remaining. At the same time, guest structures are evolving, with a growing share of individual travellers and families opting for last-minute bookings, reflecting broader shifts in travel behaviour.

Across Slovenia, spas are seeing consistent demand. At Terme Čatež, occupancy levels are in line with last year, with an additional boost expected from Orthodox Easter. Guests typically stay two to three nights, while Italian visitors remain the most prominent international segment – particularly in both hotel accommodation and camper-based stays.

A similar trend is visible at Terme Dobrna, where last-minute bookings are on the rise. Guests, mainly from Slovenia and neighbouring countries, are choosing shorter stays in a calm and relaxing environment.

The Terme Krka Group – including Šmarješke Toplice, Dolenjske Toplice, and Strunjan – expects even higher occupancy than last year, with four-day breaks proving especially popular among domestic and regional guests.

Very strong demand is also reported by Thermana Laško, where only a few rooms remain available. Italian guests lead international arrivals, followed by visitors from Austria and Central and Eastern European markets, with noticeable growth from the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

At Terme Olimia, hotels are already fully booked for the holiday period. In addition to families, the destination is attracting couples combining relaxation with outdoor activities. The average stay is just over two nights, with Italians again representing the largest international group.

On the coast, Terme Portorož is also nearing full capacity, driven primarily by individual travellers. Guests stay an average of three nights, with Italy showing notable growth compared to 2025. Other key markets include Austria, Slovakia, Germany, Hungary, and the Czech Republic.

High occupancy is further confirmed in the Pannonian spas operated by Sava Hotels & Resorts, where international guests account for the majority of visitors. The average stay is approximately two and a half days, with key markets including the Czech Republic, Austria, Germany, and Croatia.

At Terme Zreče, a six percent increase in overnight stays is expected compared to last Easter. The destination attracts families and active couples, with some visitors also taking advantage of late-season skiing conditions at nearby Rogla. Guests are expected to stay around three nights on average, with domestic visitors accounting for approximately 80% of all stays.

Overall, Slovenia’s spa sector continues to perform strongly during the Easter period, reaffirming its appeal as a go-to destination for short, high-quality wellness breaks. Demand is increasingly shaped by last-minute decision-making and shifting market conditions.

Looking ahead, longer-term geopolitical developments may influence travel patterns, particularly by increasing price sensitivity and encouraging travellers to choose closer, regional destinations. Slovenian spas are already adapting to these trends, with a stronger focus on nearby markets and tailored promotional strategies.
