Hotel Lucija Enters a New Era as a Four-Star Property Following Major Renovation

In Portorož, the fully renovated Hotel Lucija has reopened its doors, marking one of the most significant recent investments in Slovenian coastal tourism. Following an investment of nearly €10 million, the hotel has been upgraded from three to four stars, introducing a higher standard of comfort, enhanced facilities, and new opportunities for year-round tourism.

Originally built in 1964, Hotel Lucija is one of the oldest hotels in Portorož. After several partial renovations over the years, a comprehensive two-phase transformation was completed. The first phase focused on shared spaces – including the reception, restaurant, lobby bar, outdoor terrace, and children’s playgrounds – while the second phase delivered a full upgrade of all 182 rooms, along with the kitchen, conference hall, wellness and spa centre, and indoor pool complex.

The renovation introduces a modern, bright, and functional design, while preserving the hotel’s identity as an approachable and welcoming seaside destination. A key focus is on the concept of “balanced relaxation,” combining active leisure with a calm and restorative atmosphere. Guests can enjoy a refurbished indoor seawater pool, a tranquil wellness area, and a fitness centre that together create a well-rounded stay experience.

Families remain an important part of the hotel’s offer. A dedicated children’s club and a space for teenagers provide tailored activities for different age groups, while landscaped outdoor areas and proximity to the sea further enhance the relaxed coastal setting.

The hotel’s location – between Portorož and Piran – continues to be one of its strongest assets. Guests benefit from direct access to the seaside promenade, sports facilities, and the recently upgraded Portorož Sports Park. The area is also increasingly popular for cycling, supported by new on-site bike storage facilities.

With this investment, Hoteli Metropol aims to improve business performance by increasing the average room rate and extending the operating season. Previously open for around nine months a year, the hotel now targets ten- to eleven-month operations, with a particular focus on pre- and post-season demand.

The reopening of Hotel Lucija coincides with broader destination upgrades, including improvements to sports infrastructure and the coastal area. Despite ongoing uncertainty in international markets, Portorož is already seeing strong visitor numbers early in the spring and expects a successful season ahead.
