Planica 2026: The Valley Beneath the Ponce Mountains Once Again at the Pinnacle of Ski Flying

Planica 2026: The Valley Beneath the Ponce Mountains Once Again at the Pinnacle of Ski Flying

Between 26 and 29 March, Planica will once again make history. The valley beneath the Ponce Mountains, long synonymous with the men’s Ski Jumping World Cup Final, will mark a milestone moment as women take to the Letalnica bratov Gorišek ski flying hill for the first time. The traditional season finale will be elevated with world-class performances and an electrifying atmosphere for thousands of fans from Slovenia and beyond.

For decades, Planica has stood as a symbol of elite ski flying and one of the most iconic Nordic venues in the world. This year promises remarkable distances, fierce competition for overall titles, and the signature energy that draws international crowds year after year.

Across four days, Planica will host four competitions: two individual men’s events, one individual women’s event, and a men’s team competition. In doing so, it takes a historic step forward while reaffirming its status as Slovenia’s largest sporting event—often described as the country’s “sporting holiday.”

An unforgettable sporting and fan experience

The World Cup Final in Planica is more than a competition – it is a full-scale experience. Alongside elite performances, visitors can enjoy a vibrant programme of side events that animate the valley of world champions.

Families and younger visitors remain at the heart of the event. Sunday is traditionally dedicated to Family Day, featuring entertainment, a children’s zone, mascot meet-and-greets, and interactive activities. A standout attraction is Mini Planica, where children can safely try ski jumps and experience the thrill of flight.

Organisation at the highest level

Preparations run year-round, with more than 650 volunteers involved in delivering the event. The venue will host up to 30,000 visitors, supported by well-organised infrastructure, grandstands, fan zones, and a diverse culinary offering.

Safety and logistics are a key focus. Visitors are encouraged to use organised or public transport, with a special traffic regime in place. Clearly marked information points, medical services, and comprehensive safety measures ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience.

Planica 7 and the race for a prestigious title

The Planica 7 competition returns in 2026, bringing together the world’s best ski flyers to compete across seven series during the final week. The overall winner will receive a cash prize and the prestigious title of Planica’s best flyer.

Sustainability in focus

Planica 2026 continues to advance its sustainability commitments, reducing environmental impact, promoting responsible event management, and encouraging stakeholder engagement. A strong emphasis is placed on sustainable mobility, including train travel and organised transport.

Planica as an ambassador of Slovenia

Planica remains one of Slovenia’s leading international sporting events, significantly enhancing the country’s visibility as a destination for active experiences, elite sport, and sustainable tourism. The Slovenian Tourist Board recognises such events as key to strengthening Slovenia’s image as an outstanding and responsible destination, reinforcing the I Feel Slovenia brand.
